OK I am freaked out now, what should I do?

My gate at the side of the house opens and closes all the time at night. I think my house might be haunted because I heard people talking downstairs while I was doing my homework alone upstairs. Also, I keep my heater at 68 degrees, but the atomic clock says 55 and often feels chilly. My house is a new house and I don’t think anyone died. Does anyone have this kind of problem? What would you do?
