talking book project

Many people have used the term "Project Management", without a real appreciation of what Project Management actually is. If you read the books texts that speak about the projects that have a beginning, a middle and an end, which is essential and obvious difference of the trade. The textbooks also talks about the Singularity, a period of time, using resources and implementing a budget. They can also talk of risk, issue and management change. But what does this mean in practical terms?
Project management is essentially four stages – initiation, planning, the implementation and closure. 1) An initiation / Start, which is the stage where you decide you need a project 2) Planning is the stage where the project plan and plot what will happen when 3) Execution is the stage where the project is implemented, and things start to move and 4) The closing is the stage where you decide the project is completed (and paying the supplier).
These four phases are called the project life cycle. All this sounds very complicated and business-like, so let me explain what it means in real terms.
If you need to replace your kitchen may need the agreement of your partner. Assuming your partner agrees congratulations, just started a project (and achieved a key player buyin!)
Next stage is the planning stage, which is likely to first decide your budget. Then it is likely to want to decide what kind of drives you want so you can go to a kitchen supplier to offer all the lot, or go to individual providers units, stove, refrigerator, electricity, plaster, tiling, etc. The schedule and the price should be agreed, which should be checked against its budget – and sometimes this needs a rethink. The order in which you want your suppliers to enter the site must also be determined – you want the electrician to come before the plasterer. This stage will probably take longer (it's all in the planning!)
Then enter into the implementation phase – which is where all providers carry out their part of the project in the specified time in the specified budget (! and your kitchen is complete.
And, finally, will to close the project. You need to ensure that all suppliers to deliver their scope, quality and budget and bring together a total cost model …… simple, eh?
If you're aware of it or not, you have project managed the installation of your new kitchen, and in doing so have relied on some simple management processes the project – the most obvious are the planning, budgeting, vendor management, but may also unconsciously invoked other. For example, you may have done some risk management (for example, if the kitchen is not finished on time), communications or management of the actors (who must know that the kitchen is out of action and when complete?), contract management (according to the size and scope and terms of payment for work done), management change (what happens if you change your mind, or are forced to change their minds due to unforeseen circumstances). Knowingly or not, is likely to have benefited from some or all (or most) of these processes and more on the management of your project cooking simple installation.
But what if the project was a house, or a supermarket, or a factory? These would be much more complicated to implement. No more vendors involved, the more money involved, a higher probability that things can go wrong and therefore higher risk. It is not likely to be more concerned more communication lines. A project management methodology management processes, schedules, documentation, in order to achieve the ultimate goal. The processes and methodologies ensure consistency.
And this is what makes a project manager, and is where Project Management methodologies and tools into a good project methodology provides all the tools, all processes that can document and manage your project, whatever its size and scope. If you work for a medium or large business opportunities using a project methodology to standardize the process. There are processes and methodologies available online to download and run immediately.
